All the Books + Weekly Wrap-Up: July 28/13

All the Books is hosted by Jordyn at Ten Cent Notes. I share the books I read this week, the book I’m currently reading, and the books I got.

It’s been a while since I’ve done All the Books! Last week I did a vlog that was pretty huge, so this week’s is a lot smaller.

What I Read This Week

 This is Not a Test

This Is Not A Test by Courtney Summers – I loved this one! 4.5 birds, review to come soon.

Currently Reading

Princess for Hire (Princess for Hire, #1)

Princess For Hire by Lindsey Leavitt – Not loving this one so far, but it’s short and fast. I just didn’t realize it was so middle grade. I bought it at least a year ago though, so I figured it was time to read it.

What I Received

 If You Could Be Mine

If You Could Be Mine by Sara Farizan (review, thank you HarperTeen) – When I attended the HCC Frenzy event, everyone there was raving about this one, so I’m excited I received an ARC of it. I’m a bit disappointed by some of the reviews I’ve seen on GR, but I’m going to read it and decide for myself.

Posts This Week

This week I wrote a discussion post on Book Banning in Canada. I’m loving all the comments I’m getting, so please keep sharing your thoughts!

What did you read/receive this week? Leave me a comment!

I’m Back + Book Haul

Wow it’s been a long time. My last post was on May 31. I don’t think I’ve ever gone this long without posting on the blog. But a lot of stuff has happened since I last posted, so I thought I’d share some of that with you guys. Some good things happened, but also a lot of sad things. It’s been pretty stressful and busy and I’ve barely read any books since May.

A few weeks ago, I got my first job – I’m working at my local library as a library page! I’m loving it so far… I’m constantly surrounded by books and people who value reading as much as I do. It’s so fun getting to see all the new books/movies and the books people are returning. So that’s definitely been the highlight of this month, a bright spot among all the other stuff that’s happened.

The same week I started work, a family member passed away after fighting cancer. It was, of course, very sad. Then, just a couple days after that, our dog Annie had to be put down very suddenly. I’m sure you’ve all seen the pictures I’ve posted of her (my dad jokes that I made her rather famous on the blog) – she was a miniature apricot poodle. We’ve had her for 7 years, and her death was very sudden and a huge shock. Mini poodles can live up to 15 years, and Annie had just turned 11. She wasn’t a puppy, but she was still very active and lively and we never thought she’d be gone so soon. She was playing with her ball that night, and then the next morning she was rushed to the vet and put down. Her gallbladder had burst and nothing could be done.

Then, just after this, I got all my final projects. I think teachers try to give you as many projects as they can in the final weeks. I had at least 4 big English projects, a Civics final, 2 Science finals, and a Fitness practical exam. Then after those finished, I had to start studying for my Science and English exams.

Also, this isn’t really relevant, but it happened so I want to share — Last week, I cut off 11 inches of my hair and donated it to Locks of Love. I’ve done this before, about 3 years ago, when I cut off 13 inches and donated to Angel Hair for Kids. My hair grows pretty fast, so I’m thinking this is something I might keep doing: growing, cutting, then donating my hair.

So with all of this going on, I wasn’t exactly able to keep up with the blog. I’m kind of glad I took a break from blogging and reading, because I needed a bit of time away from it to just watch TV and be lazy focus on schoolwork. But now I’m done my exams, and I’m excited to start reading and blogging again.

I’m going to start with doing All the Books like I usually do on Sundays…

All the Books is hosted by Jordyn at Ten Cent Notes. I share the books I got this week since I’ve been gone, the books I read this week since I’ve been gone, and the book I’m currently reading. I’m excluding library books this time, because it’s been a month since I last did this, so I’ve gotten a lot of library books!

So, if you’ve lasted this long, thanks for sticking around! I promise I won’t be so absent anymore. I also have a neat contest coming up for you guys 🙂

Books I Read

Cross My Heart, Hope To Die (The Lying Game, #5)

Cross My Heart, Hope To Die by Sara Shepard – Meh. It was alright. I wish Shepard would just wrap up both of her series instead of dragging them on forever.

Books I Got

I was thrilled to attend an event with Razorbill Canada this week. I got to meet so many book bloggers, see all the cool Penguin titles coming out this spring, and meet author Maureen Fergus!

Nothing right now, but I’m thinking of picking up The Dark and Hollow Places so that I can finish that series.

That’s it for me this week. What did you read/receive?

Books I Got

Cross My Heart, Hope To Die (The Lying Game, #5)

Cross my Heart, Hope to Die by Sara Shepard – Yes, another never-ending series by Sara Shepard… we’ll see how this one goes. I picked it up from the library, so nothing lost if I don’t like it.

This Week In Posts

I interviewed the lovely Meg and Chri from Ink Skies. Check out the interview here.

I also posted a rant about Book Ignorance, and when great books get ignored after they’re made into a movie. Do you get this feeling too? Or am I being irrational?

Lastly, I reviewed Audrey, Wait! by Robin Benway. A good-times read!

Did you get/read any good books this week? Let me know!

All the Books & Weekly Recap: April 21

All the Books is hosted by Jordyn at Ten Cent Notes. I share the books I read this week, the book I’m currently reading, and the books I got.
I made a video this week, but for some reason it got really grainy when I uploaded it to Youtube, so sorry about the bad picture quality :/

Thank you to Simon & Schuster Canada and Kobo for making this an amazing week!

In other news, I was pretty absent on the blog this week but I did manage to post a list of my Top Ten Favourite Books. Have you read any of them?

So what did you get/read this week? Leave me a comment and let me know!

All the Books & Weekly Recap (Apr. 14)

All the Books is hosted by Jordyn @ Ten Cent Notes. I share the books I got this week, the books I read this week, and the books I’m currently reading. I also smush this post together with a weekly recap.

So this is two weeks worth of books because I didn’t post last week… Also, I just finished season 2 of Lost on Netflix, and I’m pretty much in shock, so I don’t doubt that this post might sound a bit crazy.

Books I Got

Dark Triumph (His Fair Assassin, #2) City of Glass (The Mortal Instruments, #3) Annexed Fixing Delilah

Review:

Dark Triumph (His Fair Assassin #2) by Robin LaFevers – I’m very excited to read this one because I loved Grave Mercy, and I’ve just gotten into Game of Thrones (the TV show, not the books), so this sort of castles and spies and killing is really calling to me! Thank you to Thomas Allen and Son.

Bought:

Okay, so Chapters had a 3 for $10 deal that I heard about thanks to Eden! I immediately rushed out and scoured my local Chapters for all books with a 3 for $10 sticker, and this is what I ended up with…

City of Glass (The Mortal Instruments #3) by Cassandra Clare – So it seems that I’m the only one of the planet who doesn’t love these books. I like them, but I find them pretty forgettable (I couldn’t even remember if I’d read book 2 – I had to check Goodreads). However, once I start a series, I’m pretty committed. I borrowed the first two books from the library and I know that once I read this one I will give it to the used bookstore, but I mean it was 3 for $10, and I needed a third item! 🙂

Annexed by Sharon Dogar – I can’t wait to read this. The Diary of Anne Frank is one of my favourite books of all time, and historical fiction is one of my favourite genres. To see this story from the eyes of Peter… I hope it is just as amazing as it sounds.

Fixing Delilah by Sarah Ockler – The only Sarah Ockler book I’ve read is Twenty Boy Summer, and that was a few years ago, but I remember that I loved it. Last week I bought Bittersweet by Sarah Ockler, so I’ve got a bit of a lineup now!

Books I Read

A Spy in the House (The Agency, #1) Audrey, Wait!

A Spy in the House (The Agency #1) by Y.S. Lee – You can read my full review here, but if you want the quick version: I liked it, it was fun and different, but overall pretty forgettable.

Audrey, Wait! by Robin Benway – Ah this was such a fun read! It was just what I needed to pull out of this reading slump. I’m pretty sure I was smiling the whole time I was reading this. My full review will be up soon!

Currently Reading

1984 Only Drunks and Children Tell the Truth

1984 by George Orwell – Yep, still reading this for English. I can only read to a certain point every week so that’s why it’s going by so slowly, but I wouldn’t read ahead even if I could. It’s like slogging through mud, reading this book.

Only Drunks and Children Tell the Truth by Drew Hayden Taylor – Another book for English. Well, actually it’s a play. And it’s boring.

Weekly Recap

This week on the blog I interviewed Audrey from Holes in my Brain (one of my favourite book blogs), I talked about why TV rules my life, and I reviewed A Spy in the House by YS Lee!

What about you? What did you read/get this week? 🙂

All the Books & Weekly Recap (Mar. 31)

All the Books is hosted by Jordyn @ Ten Cent Notes. I share the books I got this week, the books I read this week, and the books I’m currently reading. I’m also doing a weekly recap this week because I finally started posting again.

Books I Got

Bittersweet Insurgent (Divergent, #2) Audrey, Wait! The Waiting Sky

Bittersweet by Sarah Ockler (purchased)

Insurgent (Divergent #2) by Veronica Roth (purchased – I already read this in 2012, though)

Audrey, Wait! by Robin Benway (purchased)

The Waiting Sky by Lara Zielin

I purchased all of these from my local used bookstore, and I actually paid nothing for them because I brought in a huge bag of books to trade it and I got store credit. Buying used just makes so much more sense I think. I mean, I bought three hardcovers and one paperback for $28. That would buy me probably one hardcover if I went to Chapters. Also, I was so happy to find Insurgent there because last summer, I lent my copy to my cousin, and on top of it getting left outside in a rainstorm, I also never got it back. So I was super excited to find a copy in pretty good shape for $7.50 at the bookstore!

Books Read This Week
ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. I know, you guys. I know.

image

I guess I just haven’t been in a reading mood. Also, the main book I’m reading is a book for English class, and… ugh. Also, if we’re being honest, I’ve been watching way too much Lost on Netflix.

Currently Reading

1984 A Spy in the House (The Agency, #1)

1984 by George Orwell

The Agency: A Spy in the House by Y.S. Lee

1984 is the book I’m reading for English, and it’s BORING. I started reading A Spy in the House on the side, but I find I’m even having trouble getting into that right now, despite all the good things I’ve heard about it.

Weekly Recap

Well, there’s still time to enter a giveaway to win one of five new YA releases, in celebration of this blog moving to WordPress!

Also, have you read Just One Day by Gayle Forman? I was all about that book this week – I reviewed it and I matched it with a song by Feist and Ben Gibbard. This song sounds like it was written just for the book, I swear.

What about you? What did you get/read/post this week?

All the Books: Mar. 23

All the Books is hosted by Jordyn at Ten Cent Notes. I share the books I got this week, the books I read this week, and the books I’m currently reading. This post is three weeks worth of books really, because I haven’t done it in a while! Mostly because my time was taken up moving to WordPress!

What We Become (Those That Wake #2) by Jesse Karp

Thank you to Headline UK, Thomas Allen & Son, Simon and Schuster Canada, and Daria Snadowsky! I also bought these beautiful and colourful faux-leather bound classics, but I don’t really feel like uploading pictures now, so maybe next week 😛

Read This Week

Anatomy of a Single Girl (Anatomy, #2)

Anatomy of A Single Girl by Daria Snadowsky – Full review to come, but for now I’ll just say that it really felt like a modern day version of Judy Blume’s Forever with more of a New Adult twist.

Currently Reading

19841984 by George Orwell – I’m reading this for English class, and honestly I’m not loving it so far.

So what did you get/read this week? Leave me a comment, I’d love to know!

All the Books & Weekly Recap: March 2

All the Books is hosted by Jordyn at Ten Cent Notes. I share the books I read this week, the book I’m currently reading, and the books I got. I’m also going to start adding in a weekly recap to these posts!
Books I Read:
Nothing. Absolutely nothing. I’m an awful, awful person.
Currently Reading:

Notes From Ghost Town by Kate Ellison – I’m just having a hard time getting into this one.
Books I Got:
(all were purchased)
Out of The Easy Just One Day (Just One Day, #1)
I’m so, so excited for both of these!!! Hopefully they’ll get me out of my reading slump!
Weekly Recap:
I reviewed my new favourite book of the year, even one of my favourite books of all time: The Book Thief by Markus Zusak.
I interviewed Judith from Paper Riot, a book blog I completely adore!
So basically this week my reading sucked because… I don’t even know. I’ve been catching up on Downton Abbey Season 3 which has been crushing my heart and making me depressed for days, so maybe that’s the reason.
But mostly I just avoid reading like the plague lately. I come home from school, do my homework, and troll the internet for a few hours or watch Lost Season 2 on Netfilx.
Reading? Ha!

Sweet Brown is my spirit animal
So anyway, what have you been up to this week?

All the Books & Weekly Recap: January 20

All the Books is hosted by Jordyn at Ten Cent Notes. I share the books I read this week, the book I’m currently reading, and the books I got.
Books I Read
WaveBurned (Pretty Little Liars, #12)
Wave by Eric Walters – I would classify this more as a middle grade than a YA, but it was really enjoyable nonethless.
Burned (PLL #12) – Will this series ever end? Please, Sara Shepard, it’s over. This plot is exhausted. Just stop. I mean, it was still interesting, but the girls just keep repeating mistakes and random plot twists are being put in that don’t make any sense, just to keep the books alive.
Currently Reading
 The Almost Truth
The Almost Truth by Eileen Cook – It’s alright so far. I’m not loving it.
Books I Got
All from the library.
Ten United We StandShineThe Dark and Hollow Places (The Forest of Hands and Teeth, #3)
Ten by Gretchen McNeil
United We Stand (Well All Fall Down #2) by Eric Walters
Shine by Lauren Myracle
The Dark and Hollow Places (The Forest of Hands and Teeth #3)
I decided that I’m also going to include a weekly recap with these posts, and this week it’s pretty easy to do because I only posted once:
So yeah, that’s it for me this week! What about you? Get any good books? Leave me links! Happy reading!
